Center for Pain Medicine

The Center for Pain Medicine, a division of the Department of Anesthesiology at Fletcher Allen Health Care, provides patients with a comprehensive assessment and treatment programs. We are located in a new facility located on Tilley Drive in South Burlington. Our staff is made up of physician anesthesiologists, nurses, psychiatrists and psychologists with training and expertise in acute and chronic pain management. Our physicians are all board certified/board eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology with Added Qualifications in Pain Management. Various specialists are available for consultation within the Fletcher Allen system and are consulted in a case-by-case basis.

The services offered at the Center for Pain Medicine are tailored to the patient’s needs and include initial evaluation and treatment alternatives in a variety of pain syndromes. Our Center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including four modern fluoroscopy suites readily available for patients needing advanced interventional treatment and diagnostic procedures.

Conditions we commonly treat include:

  1. Cervical, thoracic and low back pain
  2. Cancer related pain
  3. Myofascial pain
  4. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy
  5. Post-herpetic neuralgia
  6. Diabetic neuropathy
  7. Trigeminal Neuralgia

During the first visit, patients will be evaluated by one of our pain physicians and a treatment plan will be developed. A variety of diagnostic and treatment modalities are available including:

  1. Epidural Steroid Injections
  2. Selective Nerve Root Injections
  3. Peripheral Nerve Blocks
  4. Trigger Point Injections
  5. Facet Joint Injections
  6. Medial Branch Blocks
  7. Radiofrequency neurolysis, both conventional and pulse
  8. Diagnostic Discography
  9. Stellate Ganglion Blocks
  10. Celiac Plexus Blocks
  11. Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks
  12. Superior Hypogastric Plexus Blocks
  13. Ganglion Impar Blocks
  14. Neurolytic Procedures
  15. Trials and implantation of intrathecal pumps
  16. Trials and implantation of spinal cord stimulators
  17. Psychological evaluation and management
